Check out my latest drawing! I am usually not an elf person(I thought they were small and worked for Santa a few months ago), but I am enjoying LOTR and two new favorite illustrator/artists- Alan Lee and Chris Riddell.
So, after being able to respect fantasy through Lord of the Rings and recently-as in two days ago-reading the much lighter, but slightly dark Edge Chronicles, I am so ready to draw! And draw funky stuff, too! Pointy ears and clothes with strings and odd stuff all over the place. If you have not seen Chris Riddell's illustrations, he is one of the most original illustrators I have seen. His drawings are loaded with odd and awesome stuff. Just thinking about it makes me want to crawl into a hole and be ashamed. So I am jumpstarting off of his artwork and trying to add a bit more oddness to mine, which I am hoping will eventually lead to my own, original creativeness. And then I see Alan Lee's stunning watercolors, with so much detail, but not like the shiny, bright oil paintings typical of paperback fantasy. His are old fashioned, respectable, and unique, but in a completely different way than Chris Riddell's.
And they both draw pointy ears.
Oh, by the way, I am not stuck on fantasy, as I also am reading "Black Ships of Troy" illustrated by Alan Lee and Chris Riddell's "Ottoline and the Yellow Cat", written and illustrated by him. Check it out! Super original!
